So, my cichlidren and the rest of my family have lived in the one place for quite some time. But, due to a change in work location... i would now like to move my family about 2.5 hours drive away.

Here's my question: Anyone got some tips or suggestions from their own experience moving large fish? I've got 2 Oscars @ 12" each, a Brasilliensis @ 8" and a couple of small loaches and BN's. My plan so far is to move my 2 O's in some 50L plastic tubs i have as hospital tanks. I was planning to transport them in some of their tank water, and was thinking this may help kick start my cycle when they go back into the new tank. My O's are my main worry as they freak out when seperated. I can't put them both in one 50L tub, though, as it's going to be at least a day to move them.

Any help, suggestions and advice appreciated!

Go to a fishing bait store and get some battery powered aireators. Use these in the tubs to aireate the water. These can last up to a couple of days working on batteries. You should be able to put both Os in the same tub if you really need to.

As for the jumpstart of a new tank. Keep the gravel wet in the tank when you move it. And if you have biowheels put them in some tank water as well. This will help preserve the bacteria on them.

Thanks. The gravel suggestion is really good, something i hadn't thought about. I can put it all in a tub along with some tank water, so that should be good. I'm using a Fluval 304 on the main tank with a big powerhead i made myself. I'll leave the fluval full of water and move it in another plastic tub so i wont effect the bacteria in it.

Keep the great idea's comming please guys! I want my fish to be as comfy as me when they move in /:'
