Just got my multis yesterday and got rid of the brichardi that were in the tank, i got 7 of them for a 40G L with about 70 shells and 25lbs of lace rock, these lil guys are awesome, the colours and strips on them are very dark some more than others others look a lil irradescent and there big blue eyes, they are amazing, they are def my fav cichlid by far. I was reading and i read alot about them spending alot of time in the shells and just basically hiding but mine are always hovering about halfway and zinging through the current, as u can tell im really excited about these lil guys/girls, will post pics later.

they only use the shells as a defense. if ya bump the tank or move to fast they will get spooked and dart in. other then that they should stay in the open for ya i even have some going above mid tank level to chase down food. very nice cichlid and im eager to get them to adulthood. all mine are still fry

Lol i cant stop talking about them, they are really accpeting to ppl as well, they never hide i have had them eating the sinking pellets b4 they even sink. I was actually trying to even scare them to just go in the shells and it didnt work until my dog started starring at them then they would shoot at the glass then go into the shells, hours of pure entertainment better than tv. I bought mine at a reasonable size i dont think they are full grown but they are not juvies. ill get the pics up by tomorrow

They really are cool --wait till they re-landscape your tank. Mine have taken the sand, which was perfectly level when I put them in there, and created twin peaks along the front wall, each at least six inches high.

They've also been breeding like crazy; I'm sure I have at least 40 fry in there right now, and am scratching my head as to what I'm going to do with them all.

They really are great fish!
