OMG...when I get home today, I couldn't find my blue rams (I got 3 and only see 1)....after 5 mins of searching, I found 2 of them kinda sitting on a big flat leaf, it's weird as they used to chase after each other all the time. hm..then I looked closer...WHOLE BUNCH OF EGGS!!!<br><br>I am all excited but also a bit worried now...the only good thing is the spawning pair doesn't go really aggressive to other fish (of course they would shoo the tetras out, but no real nipping) <img src='/images/forums/smile.gif' border=0><br><br>I am so freaked out..what should I do? I dun have a 2nd tank setup (I have a 8g one, which I drained dry earlier)...the rams are sharing the 30g tank with cardinal tetra, rummy nose and guppies..would it be fine?<br><br><img src='/images/forums/eek.gif' border=0>

Congratualtions! The blue rams are good enough parents to shoo away any fish that might threaten their eggs. Let the blue rams do what they need to, although since it sounds like it is their first spawn it might not be very sucessful you are lucky you found a compatible pair! They will become better and better parents as they continue to spawn.
This site has some good info:

Congrats again!

Aw...when I got home today, two thirds of the eggs were gone well..seems like the parents are still guarding the eggs, but they started eating their own eggs once in a while!! hm..but that somehow solved my problem, as I dunno how to handle 200 blue ram babies all at the same time (there were ALOT of eggs) And now it only left like 60 of them (and parents keep eating..lol)

I see no fry yet (it's like 24 from spawning)hm..even if only 1 egg hatches, I would still be super happy..and if none makes it..well..at least it shows the blue rams thrive in my tank

btw, Hooktor, thanks for the link, I learned a lot from it

Mine have spawned 3 times and eaten their eggs every time, usually about day 3 which makes me think the may eat them when they hatch into wigglers.

I'm going to hatch the next batch myself if I can find some Micro-worms.

Have fun, Mike

Congrats on the spawn! My ram's first spawn was unsucessfull with them eating the eggs on the third day. I would remove them and try and raise them yourself. Something in their insticnt cause them to eat the eggs if the pH isn't low enough.

Here is a good article on raising them yourself-[link=http://www.aquatic-hobbyist.com/profiles/breeding/bluerambreeding.html]http://www.aquatic-hobbyist.com/profiles/breeding/bluerambreeding.html" style="COLOR: #40FFFF[/link]

good luck and hope that helped

O..thanks for the article !

well, the rams finished eating all their eggs on day 3

May be the water is too hard or ..may be the rams just aren't good parents the first time

Anyway, I will wait for the 2nd spawn, at least I know the water is good enough to have rams lay eggs. I will try to soften the water and add some CO2 to lower the pH a little bit (was around 6.8).

today I checked the tank.. no ram eggs, BUT! I found a baby (about 1/4 inch) lemon tetra!! What a little suprise (I didn't see any lemon tetra eggs and there're only 3 lemon tetras in the tank)

For sure, there're a lot going on in my 30 g..hehe
