HI all...

I'm on here on my brother's behalf....without him asking me.... ahh hell it's for my own curiosity! haha

He's got a 15 gallon with only the firemouth in there..almost fully grown and the most skittish fish i have ever encountered.. now the LFS did tell him that that was big enough..so he went iwth it.. they also said they would eat the little goldfish...so he bought some.. but he hasn't eaten it yet and the thing has already grown lol

he also stole..with my bf.. a guppy fry of about 5 months and put it in there with it thinking he would eat it and he didn't...... so i'm wondering.. can this fish really eat smaller live fish? or maybe just not this one? I honnestly have no clue and I figured if I found usefull info on here from people who have kept these fish I could maybe let my brother in on it!

Thanx in advance,
bratty_girl29/:'

yes they can eat smaller fish, but that doesn't mean that they will. if they've never been fed live fish, then an adult may not see a smaller fish as food.

exactly how big is the firemouth? full grown adults can grow to 6" SL if not slightly larger. if a firemouth of that size was in a 15 gallon then it should be pretty easy to see the poor thing needs a larger tank. I'd try to go for no less than a 29 though a 30 long would be much better.

He's about 4 or 5 inches now.. and it's a deep set 15 gallon...so he has MORE than enough room to move around. Again, this isn't my decision. i don't overstock my aquariums..... I was just asking a question for him..
thanx for the help!
