I went to the fishstore today and they had this yellow cichlid that was pretty small, and according to the sales associate it stayed small and was also one of the most peaceful cichlids. Its name began with "red" but i forget exactly what its name was. Any help would be appreciated! I thought their vibrant yellow was very pretty (weird that they were named red....)

Yeah, I thought it would be unusual for it to be an electric yellow as there is obviously no red in the name, but when you say vibrant yellow it's the first thing to think of!

Cichlids with red in the name - Red Zebra, Red Empress, a few peacock species have red in their names too I think. Red zebra seems likely, they are a kind of orange-yellow (more red if they are better stock).

More round, and bright gold - could it be a Gold Severum, sold as a Red something?

Or, I don't know, Gold Rams can be rather rounded, especially those silly "balloon" ones.

Or maybe some kind of hybrid, a Blood Parrot or something? They can be fairly gold and given the usual common name, could certainly be sold as Red Parrots.

If it truly is a red Zebra than aren't they a bit off when they said "peaceful"? I'm not a big african cichlid fan, I've only kept Venustus but aren't Zebras fairly aggressive?
