Ok got a quick question here....I seem to have a pair in a 10 gallon tank..well not seem but know I do because I noticed some fry last night. Since noticing the fry, I haven't seen the female at all but the male has been all over the tank. Is this typical? Will she keep hiding?

Hmm usually it's really hard to tell if the female has died or if she is caring for a brood.

If the fry are already free swimming and decent sized, she might actually be sitting on another batch of eggs in the shell. Odds are shes in the shell hiding.

Rarely would the male kill the female, but it is possible. Try looking patiently and luring the fish out with food.

Still have not seen her even during feeding. They have quite a few shells in one area the way they want and I can't see inside some of them because of the way they are turned so i don't know if she is in there. The majority of the fry seem to hang around that area also. They all seem to be free swimming.

I'd definetly check for her. At night, with the lights off except a small light for your own vision, turn the shells to position them to your view. Then you can turn back on the lights and check. Try checking in crevices between rocks or shells a corpse may be in.

Odds are she's in a shell.

Thanks for the help...I tried what you said in the dark with a small light and i found her outside a shell hovering over it. I fed her a bit too while she was out.
