I cannot get my pH to lower, so I was looking at cichlids and noticed a lot of Lake Malawi cichlids like high pH. Do you guys have any suggestions of what to get? I'd like to have a community tank if possible. I have a 125 gallon. I already have the follwoing:
1 chinese algae eater
2 gouramis
1 pleco
1 rainbow shark
2 silver platys
I can put these in my other tank if needed.

So are you asking if you can put the Lake Malawi cichlids in the community tank with the fish you have how? Because if you are the answer is NO. I'd deinitely consider putting the fish you already have in another tank. If you decide to go with the Lake Malawis, and this is your first time having cichlids. I'd suggest going with something easy maybe along the lines of some electric yellows.

Personally if it where me I would moved the fish if you can. What type of pleco is it, it can probably stay in.
Next if you are looking for africans I would personally suggest stocking with male aulonocara(peacocks) and some haps. This would make a nice show tank, or go with a 1,2,3 species colony tank. If you looking through the profiles at www.cichlid-forum.com you find some fish that interests you. There is a wide vareity to choose from since you have a large tank. I would avoid mix mbunas with some other african for various reason, however, this is my opinion and a lot of others say go ahead and mix. What is your ph anyways?

you could make that a sweet mbuna, hap or peacock tank. your options are pretty much endless. you can do larger haps, haps with peacocks, just peacocks, or mbuna. check out the profiles section at cichlid-forum.com. this will give you an idea of the hundreds of possiblities that are open to you. please ask many questions. we want you to be successful. there are no dumb questions. heck, i asked them already!!!

I would definitely move the other fish, except possibly the pleco and MAYBE the CAE (I've kept them with malawis before with no problems, but others say differently). There are almost limitless possibilities for a malawi tank that size. The best way to go about it is to look at some pics, find the ones you like best and then build the tank around them.
