Now that I have my firemouths...(check my profile for the 55 gallon tank stock) I am now wanting to get something else with the firemouths...meaning i am willing to get rid of my (gulp) angels and platties. What about severums...they seem fairly placed, minus if they start breeding. What do you think about this? I was going to do blue acaras.. but I cant seem to find them around here.. and dont want to order them online.. too much $$$. What is your opinion?

72 gallon bowfront:Tanganyikan Lake set up
75 gallon: A. Baenschi trio,Cyanotilapia Afra Cobwe(4), copadichromis trewavase, protomelas sp. tangerine tiger(breeding pair)

I would go with 2 or 3 severums.

Personally, I wouldn't go with severums. imo, they are borderline for getting too big for a 55, but I definitely wouldn't put sevs with firemouths in a 55. even firemouths will get to a decent size and there just won't be room to add severums.

I would go with a species of cryptoheros...which are the same genus as convicts, but there are several species that stay smaller, are less aggressive and much more colorful. A few examples are the Honduran Red Point which are becoming more and more common. These are not, however to be confused with 'Blue Convicts'. There are farms crossing regular convicts with Honduran Red Points and selling the resulting fry as 'Blue Convicts'. Anyway, a couple other good ones would be the T-bar cichlid (Cryptoheros sajica), the blue eyed cichlid (Cryptoheros spilurum) as well as C. myrnae, C. nanoluteus and C. septemfasciatus. Any of these would go great in a 55 with firemouths.
