I just "inheritted" a 85 gal. Fish Aquarium with stand & all. I`m very stoked about it. I can`t wait to get it all cleaned up, decorated, & running. My question is, is this tank going to be large enough for my Red Tiger Oscar? Right now, he is in a 55 gal Top Fin - doing REALLY well. I got him for $2.99 at a local fish store & he was about an 1" in size. Now, 3 months later, he is beautiful. He has grown to 6" long & about 4" in body span. I just don`t want to go through all the "drama" & money of getting this 85 in order if he`ll just end up needing an even larger tank. Plus, I was wondering if I could add my 2 Jack Dempseys in with him. The Dempseys I bought at the same store, $2.99 each & they were less than an inch big then. Now, they are drop dead beautiful. The male is about 5" long & the female is just over 4" long.

I'm guessing thats about a 4ft long tank? Should be prefectly fine for the Oscar, possibly even a pair (but I wouldn't suggest trying to match it up now). If its alone, the JD's should be fine too but be extra careful if THEY breed.... the oscar will be under threat from them if they spawn.

Yeah, it`s 4 ft long & 45 inches tall (from top to bottom). It is 1 & 1/2 feet wide. I`m planning on putting a cave or 2 - depending on the size of the cave(s) incase they JD`s do breed. But if they don`t, thats fine too. Not really looking to breed them, but if it happens - all the more fun : )

He should be real happy. 55 gal is the minimum recommended for an oscar. He'll probably sulk for awhile once moved, they have this attitude problem sometimes Make sure the caves don't have any sharp edges so he doesn't get hurt. Like someone else said, watch the JD's.

If your measurements are correct, then you have a big enough tank for both pairs (hypathetically speaking that is.) However, due to the fact that it is only 4ft long, I wouldn't recommend you allowed both pairs to remain in the tank if they spawn.

Actually, my room mate measured it. I just re-measured it & here are the correct measurements:

4 ft long
30 inches tall (from top to bottom)
15 inches wide

95 gallons, not bad, you could still fit a pair or possibly a trio.
