Just picked up these beauties at my local aquarium society meeting mini-auction for $1 a piece...

One adult male Aulonocara Jacobfreibergei Eureka red:

and three juvenile Aulonocara sp. Rubescens:

Tonight, I am a happy camper.

The meeting was pretty sparse, and bidding was sluggish....if I had an extra $4 on me, I would have scooped the other bag of Rubescens, too. Some nice big Anubias went for $2 each...quite the steal.

The tank that they are in is a mixture of peacocks and small bichirs....seems to work quite nicely.

I wish that there was an aquarium society here that had fish like that. I'm jealous, too.

keep an eye on the eureka and ruby reds. both are known to be tops on peacock aggression. when maturing, only one will be king of the tank and the subdominants will most likely suffer a bit. just to let you know what you may be in for. you know both are man made strains that do not occur in the wild? this may be part of why they are so aggressive. both are wonderful fish and i own both right now. you may want to check into albino peacocks too. i just got an albino eureka and it is stunning to say the least!!! good luck.
