Hello All,
I've been noticing some odd behavior in one of my altispinosa lately. She (one of three) will occasionally rub her gill cover across the edge a piece of slate or rock. Her gills look fine, and there are no other signs of problems. (water= 0 ammonia, 0 nitrite, 0 nitrate) I recently added a male to the tank. Could this be a pre-spawning behavior?

Not prespawning behavior. Flashing can be caused by external parasites that bother the fish. The fish "itch" so they rub against something to scratch it. Keep an eye on her, it may be a parasite, but it could be that they are bored. My old altispinosus used to flash for no reason, and with no signs of parasites. Just keep a close eye on her to see if anything shows up on her.
