Hi all, i got a 150g tank that i plan to use for a oscar. a few years ago i was luckey enough to have 2 that paired up.
i would like to pair them up again, i plan to get them from very small. my thought was to buy a few young and wait to see if a pair is formed but then i remebered they wont usually pair up till a certain age. is there a successful way of doing it?

i loved how a pair of oscars looks all i remeber is how they never swam more than 2-3 inches apart and even saved food for each other..very weird for oscars

As with any cichlid where it it hard to sex them properly,
You will need at least a group of 5 juveniles and let them grow together. Observe them well, when they come of age you will see pairing off occuring. Get the pair into their own tank. You may end up with another pair from the other 3 fish

I got lucky with my guys... though i still don't know what sex they are as they have not attempted to spawn. Anyway, i have 2 Oscars, bought roughly 1.5 months appart from each other from different shops. The different shops was because the 2 use diffirent suppliers, so there's a better chance my fish wont be relatives Genetic diversity if they do ever breed!

They get along fine, with maybe 1 small scuffle per month. It's really up to the two fish you try to pair. You might not get them to breed unless you use the method suggested by DaFishMan... but you might be lucky like i was and end up with 2 beautiful fish who are great friends. Depends on what you want. I'd be happy if my fish didn't breed, as i don't have space to keep the offspring, and i'm damned if i want my fishy offspring going to some of the bad homes i've seen
