I know this question has been beaten to death but what is the bare minimum tank size for an oscar?

IMO 75 US gaallon for standard sized aquariums, and still, the bigger the better.

You can get away with 55 for 1 Oscar, but 75 is better with an additional 25(min) per Oscar added (except 3 as two tend to buddy up and pick on the one left out)

having personally seen a full size adult oscar in a 55 gallon, I would never keep one long term in anything smaller than a 75. and by full size adult, I mean an oscar that was around 13-14".

i would say atleast a 75, mine is not even half grown and in a 125 with a small geophagus and a small green terror and the tank does not look big enough.

IMO a 75g is the smallest i would "keep" and oscar in but to truely enjoy a oscar i would have it in a 125g. dont like fish looking cramped even if i know "it works".

as long as you know that a adult will eventually need the 75 gallon tank you can start a youngster in a 15-20 and move it to larger tanks as it grows

The difference between 'involvement' and 'commitment' is like an bacon and egg breakfast: the chicken was 'involved' - the pig was 'committed'."

As already stated a 75 would be alright for one but the bigger the better. It gives you more options for other fish if you go big enough. It is kind of funny how many people ask this question. People that come into my store always get made at me for telling the truth!

Freejoe,
nice icon and sweet quote!
