I have two oscars, and at first they never had a background on there tank now they do, since they have they have been hiding out and only coming out to eat, could this be a problem? Or they just being weird like they always are??

EDIT: I did all water tests to be sure, they are all fine every one of them, I was shocked I was having a slight ph problem before. All that is new is that background.

They probably feel more confined since they now can not see out that portion of the tank and like their environment has been changed. They will most likely adjust to it soon and be back to their normal behavior.

I had an oscar (we recently gave it too our friend who had a big tank and nothing really in it). It too always would hide. A lot of times it wouldn't even come out to eat, it would just wait until everything settled down and eat off the bottom. It was in a tank with severums who are really rambunctious around feeding time and are also a decent size. I often wondered that although the oscar was bigger than everything else in the tank, that it actually realized it. It was almost like, it thought it was the smallest and was affraid to get picked on or something. Now that it is in a tank by itself, it doesn't hide so much and deffinetly comes out at feeding time like a starved piggy. I guess some of them are really shy around other fish...
