the problem with adding other cichlids with an already breeding colony would be cross breeding.. this may be a problem for you..

i noe of other people who have had two breeding colonies in the one tank.. you want to make sure that the male and females of the other colony are not similar in colour to the lithobates you have in there..

i would recomend africans such as Melanochromis interruptus, Pseudotropheus saulosi, yallo labs. etc

to avoid aggression you could always go with just the females with there nice yellow colour.

a good school of clown loachs would be a good idea and a gibbi ..

hope this helps

Thanks for the ideas Rob3y...

You stated my problem very well, Trying to find a species that is totally different from my Lithobates.
I was thinking Red Empress Or a Aulonocara species as the females are brown, where as the Lithobates have black markings down the sides. But the Body shape is very similar.
I'm at a crossroads:%)

Being as my Lithobates are Haplochromines, ANY Mbuna are out as they don't have the same bio-type or dietary needs as the Lithobates......
Yellows may work but I have a breeding colony of them in a species tank, and personnally would rather not mix Mbuna and Haps....

And though I love clown loaches, I really try to avoid putting non-cichlids in my tanks

a problem it is indeed.. i feel for ya.. other cichlids you have suggested are still very similar and may cross..
i guess nothing is stopping you from splitting the tank in two?? just a thought though..

i would probly recomend asking on [link=http://www.cichlid-forum.com]http://www.cichlid-forum.com" style="COLOR: #E69A23[/link].. you would want someone who has actully had experience with this and may help you out.. this is a common issue with many malawi tanks.. so it will be interesting what people have had luck with..

keep us updated on how u go

cheers

what about some copadichromis? i have some common borleyi, but you should be able to find some nicer, rarer ones. those two should do pretty well together. you probably dont want to do peacocks as they will interbreed freely with the lithobates. tangerine tigers or taiwan reefs should be a good fish too.

Copadichromis would work indeed I have an order in for some Azureus, however they'll be little and my Lithobates are 31/2-4" and growing....
So the only Copadichromis I want I can't get
Very good call Acei
Also I can't get Any tangerine Tigers and Twain Reefs need to be the dominant fish in the tank to really prosper Which they won't with Lithobates as a tank mate.....

I'm thinkin I'll hold out for some decent size Azureus, or just leave them.
I'd just really like to see more than 5 fish in the tank
Thanks guys, much appreciated.

my lithos werent dominant at all. yours may be different. i had a 5" male that was scared of everything. he wound up taking the last big jump out of my tank (rip). too bad, he was a cool looking fish and mild mannered too!
