3minutes per feeding, twice per day - make sure you only give the fish what they can eat in 3 minutes and remove any uneaten food... all is good.

How big and what species are they. Also what do you consider a small amount. I never really like the minute thing, it's too general.

Do you see any un eaten food in your tank?. If yes, then you are overfeeding. If all the food is eaten within minutes, then your Ok.

Right now I have three African cichlids, one red tail shark and an algae eater. When I feed them flake and pellets they finish the food in seconds. Someone at the LSF told me to feed once at day but I do not think they are getting enough. Once a week they get veggies and frozen shrimp which they seem to love.

you can feed 2-3 times per day with no problem. Just be sure you offer less per feeding the more often that you feed them.

How quickly do your filter cartridges clog up? If they clog up in less than a week then you're overfeeding. Mine take at least 2-3 weeks to start showing signs of built up gunk.

i think that he means the flow is beginning to become restricted

my africans get fed prolly 5-6 times a day
because when ever someone that has fed them b4 walks by the tank they go to the top n splash water to b fed
but i have over 30 fish in the tank as well n the food disappears very fast
so fast that my khulies must swim up to the top to try to get flake becuz none hits the bottom

as long as there isnt any food left in the tank n they r eager to get more food then ur ok

One good indication of clogged filter is when you shut it off for like ten seconds and turn it back on and a huge cloud of debris comes out when the water starts to flow again.

I assume it is a hang on the back power filter? Just make sure it is turned off before changing media. Take the whole filter to the sink and dump the water in it down the drain. Maybe a good time to grab a filter brush and give it a scrub and also make sure to clean the impeller and it's housing. Make sure you don't change all the media at once.
