Ok, when I was first getting fish for my aquarium, Danielle wanted me to get this little brown and silver little cichlid. He was the smallest fish in the store tank and we kinda felt sorry for it so we got. Well, we don't know what it is.

It was in the tank with the other Malawis, and now that its about an inch long, I can see it is a peacock, but I don't know what kind.

It has a silver body, with one dark band that runs from just behind the eye to the base of the tail. There are also a few dark spots on the top of his body around the base of the dorsal.

I'm thinking it is a red empress (odd name seeing as how it is silver ), and I have looked online for info on them. I have found a bunch of data on them, none very helpful as they say that the fish grows anywhere between 3 and 13 inches!

Thanks in advance for any help.

you are going to have to let him/her grow up quite a bit before you can tell what he is. most likely a peacock, but dont rule out a copadichromis. they look a lot like peacocks when young.

based on what I've seen in the Cichlid Forum photo gallery, I'd say that you've got a juvenile Red Empress.
