Please tell everything I need to know in order to successfully keep the Salvini cichlid. Currently my set up includes the following:

55 gallon aquarium
Fluval 304 canister filtration
300 watt Neptune submersible heater
large polished gravel stones
black background

I want to keep a pair of salvini cichlids in my 55 gallon aquarium. Please tell me what I need to know to successfully achieve this goal. The tank is currently cycling and I plan on adding them next Saturday.

Include information on decorations especially please, and how to arrange them, and what they should be specifically.

thank you.
C.

sounds pretty good about the only good decorations would be some big caves for them and a few fake plants.

I would agree. Get some big caves and some rock to fill up the tank and plant some plants all around the rocks. I'm not to much of a fan of only haveing one heater. I would much rather have 2 15o watts then 1 300 watt. Any how sounds good post osme pics when you get the tank

there are several different was you can make caves. one is to stack rocks and/or driftwood to form a cave-like structure as I've done in my 125. Here's a pic. my male festae is in front of the structure but you can still get an idea of what I've done. there is a big rock on the left and on the right as well as another one in the back that you can't see and the driftwood forms the top of the cave.

a much simpler solution is to buy some larger (6-8" terracotta/clay pots from your local wal-mart or other department store. you'll find them in the pottery section. these pots are used by many cichlid breeders as an easy spawning cave. [/font]
