Ok i was doing a water change yeterday and when i was adding the salt it ( it all didnt disolve in the container) some fell to the tank floor and my ram started eating it. is this unusual or what?

Well, it may not be unusual, but its not good for them. If I remember right, direct contact will high amounts of salt can actually "burn" fish. Not sure where I read that though.

Rams don't need salt, it increases the hardness of your water, and rams like soft water. Current research is showing that salt isn't really needed in tanks, unless you want to create brackish conditions.
