just curious, whats everyones take on Rams?? I kinda like the blue ram but i hear they are very sensitive, German ram and Gold ram are a lil tougher, any suggestions? they would be housed in a 70G community tank with 2 Angel fish non breeding, a chocolate pleco a albino bn, 6 neon 6 black phantom 5 salt and pepper and 7 bronze corys and some ottos as well.

The major issue is temperature. Venezuelan Rams (or as US aquarists keep calling them, German Rams) like it warm. Make sure that your other fishes will also like it warm alongside the Rams, and if so, you should have relatively few problems in a 70 gallon - should be enough space there to keep half a dozen of them reasonably happy alongside your other fishes.

Bolivian Rams don't necessarily need 'hothouse' conditions, but I gather they still like a reasonable degree of warmth. What temperature is your aquarium at?

As long as your water quality is good they should do okay in that tank. If you are concerned about the quality then Id go with bolivian rams. theyre hardier and IMO have more of a personality.

thanx for the replies, the temp is 80 degrees, im working on the quality of the water now im planning on getting them in a month or less so i have been doing 20-25% water changes every 5 days for the past 2 weeks and will continue doing that until i get them them, then i will do it every week to 10 days all readings are fine as it stands, had a lil amonia spike b/c of a dead neon that i didnt realize was dead. So the bolivian ram had more personality? What about the Gold Rams i kinda like the red to yellow fade they do, they the same as the blue ram?

Yes, the Gold Ram is the same as the Blue Ram. It's just a color morph.

As for Bolivians having more personailty, I have kept both and IMO they both have a bit of a personality.

If you don't *think* you can keep Blue Rams, then go for another Bolivian. They are more forgiving than the Blue's.

I would stay away from blue rams. They look really good at first even for six months and then inevitably they seem to succumb to some parasite. They are very e to this. Many times in the LFS you see the blue rams in with the Discus and cardinals. The bolivians on the other hand are great fish and if your water quality is good they due develop some pretty inpressive colors. You might have seen this in my log, but here's a pic of my two.

Well, i guess it would be hands down then, bolivian it is. 1 more question, do they like softer or harder water? Planted with rocks and caves are a must if im correct as well!?!?

Soft water and plants are preferred. They don't seem to need caves, and don't even use them for spawning in most cases. Just some plants and other decor for bases would work fine.

Sirbooks pretty much said it, soft plants and some flat rock surfaces. My bolivian spawned on a piece of petrified wood that was under a piece of driftwood.
