Will this work? I'v read that red devils are okay with similar sized or larger fish. Setup: 80 gallon breeding severums one red devil, will that work???

Would be very careful with that combination, RDs are not the most friendly of fish. You could end up with a lot of damage being done! Make sure you allow a lot of hiding places in the tank, and keep a very close eye on things

RDs are downright vicious. The answer is a resounding NO!

in a much larger tank it might work out, but eventually the Red devil would need the 80 gallon to him/herself.

I heard red devils need up to 200 gallons to not bother anyone

Depending on temperament that is quite possible. I wouldn't even try in anything smaller than a standard 180 (6' x 2' x 2').

I would get the severums and forget the red devil. I wouldn't keep a red devil with basically anything. Tempermental fish. I've kept one before until it outgrew my tank. Then I gave it to the lfs who in turn sold it to one of my friends with a 300 gal. Good-looking fish, but not my fav.

Not a good combination in that sized tank.

It really just depends on the personality of the fish. Though, i would not take the risk of having a breeding pair of severums with a larger fish in the same tank. Both types of fish would be feuding over territory...

I would get the RD, gotta love tank busters

I, personally, at one time had over 40 RDs. Most juvies, but had several adults. Most had to be by themselves or with a mate (M/F). Juvies 6" and under can be kept together. Apparently RDs and severums can mix in an aquarium since we have the lovely hybrid Parrot cichlid which is a cross of the severum and RD. I have only owned one severum that ever even had close of a nasty temperment that could have handled being in with a RD.
