Yep, I wanna try it I have a spare 10g tank. I'm planning on putting in sand and rocks, and perhaps shellies?

I'm not exactly a novice, though I havent done shellies before. Aggression is no problem for me to deal with. What shelly would fit in a 10g, and look the best (so mom won't think I'm wasting my money )?

Shellies yes!

The best options for a 10 are multis and brevis. If you want a colony of fish herding each other around and having friendly squabbles, multis are a great option. If you want a bonded pair fish that comes in a choice of varieties and locations, brevis make elegant pets. Less common options include signatus and ornatipinnis, both of which are gorgeous.

Other species are often kept in 10 gals but can be excessively territorial, and they wouldn't be my first choice. In particular the ocellatus group - occies, meleagris, and speciosus primarily (there are also a couple of super-rare species in the group).

Not to steal your thread but, I'm planning for shellies as well and the set-up is similar (10g, sand)

Now I know I'm getting Sunspot Brevis, so my question is for Little Mousling.

How many do I get?

Hope all goes well with yours, and good choice on the shellies

The one LFS that tends to have the rarest fish in my area doesnt sell shellies... their only tangs are like, julies and fronts. They're more into the malawis (which I'm keeping currently).

Do you have any suggestions for a good site to get these from?

UPDATE: After doing some searching of my own, I decided on multis. They seem to be the most interesting, even if they aren't as colorful as ocellatus (which I was thinking about). They seem to be -really- tiny, though... like, tetra tiny. How many should I keep in a 10g?

3-4.
1 male (having more than 1 male in a 10 can be risky, but it does sometimes work.)and 2-3 females.

They will multiply fairly quickly.

And for MR_CICHLID - 6 juvies to pair off or a pair if you can find a known one for sale. Brevis are definitely pair fish, and while they have such small territories that you could probably have two pair in a 10, I wouldn't recommend it - better to let their fry have the bioroom and territory space.
