They are a realitively large and peaceful american cichlid that enjoys a lower pH of 6.5ish and are very easily bred. Minimum tank requirement is a 75 gallon. Males have longer, pointed dorsal and anal fins. Females have shorter, rounded dorsal and anal fins. Males reach usually 12+", females 9"+. Sand or very fine substrate is the best. They are "earth eaters" hence they dig in the substrate and large gravel isn't as easy for them to move and can some times bruise them. HTH David |
