Hello,
I have 1 severum and 3 silver Dollars in a 29g Tank(Yes, I know its overcrowded but I am going to fix that). So my severum, which i thought was a male until today, is guarding some "Eggs". I don't see how it could lay eggs if it was a boy. If it was a girl I would understand because females somtimes lay eggs that have no mate. Attached are pictures of the Severum and the eggs. I have been noticing that the severum has been chasing around the Silver Dolalrs and moving those pebbles around a lot. Tell me what you make of this. Thanks.

Pictures (Yellow Water is due to Driftwood, which will be removed It does not affect my parameters. They are all good.)

Unfortunately, much of the sexing for severums is relative. Males are larger in some areas and have more distinctive facial markings compared to females, but unless you are looking at one adult male and one adult female next to each other, it is difficult to determine sex.

Thanks for sharing pictures. I've never seen severum eggs before.

based on how the eggs are spread out (and of course the behavior you observed), it looks like a deliberate attempt to breed. She'll move on eventually to other things, though that won't take as long if you removed the eggs (which would also reduce the chance of fungus breaking out).

The Original owner told me that it was a male due to the green spangles under the eyes. Well The eggs are just going to die away right?

Well... the eggs are gone. That was cool while it lasted.
