a 55 would be about the minimum for a severum do to mature size.

Adult Severums should grow upwards of about 8", however too many people put them in 29, 30's and 55's...these are fine for the first few months of life, however I normally grown mine out in 150's. Also water changes, water changes, water changes. Did I mention Water changes accellerate the growth of this super fish! They need large water changes weekly. I actually have people ask me what kind of fish mine are because they have not seen them the way they should be (Large).

I'm voting on 55 gal only cause I have 2 green severums in that size tank. Under a year old and already 5" and still growing. Scary! I think I need a bigger tank....

Sure, a full grown sev could live in a 55g, but wouldn't a mated pair in a 75g be much happier? Think about it this way: Would you want to live your life single, locked in an efficiency appartment or married in a 2 bedroom ranch on a 1/4 acre corner lot?

I'd say a 55G would be an absolute minimum for a fish topping out at 8".

A 29G for a full-grown adult is cruel for a fish that size.

I think the makes this kind of a biased poll, though. And personally in contexts like this I find it a little offensive. C'mon, is the condescension really necessary? I'm sure the poll will prove your point, no need to salt the wound.

Actually i think something along the lines of a 40 would be OK, but atleast a 55 is best.

I would put one in a 29 gallon, until it reached about 5", and then put it in a 55 gallon. Those things get huge!

55 would be the absolute minimum, but I wouldn't put many smaller cichlids with them. maybe a school of some type of dithers or you could use the 55 as a breeding tank. a 75 would be much better though imo. severums do get pretty big...~8-10" and are very tall and thick fish.

40 gallon is a good size for one severum and a mix of smaller cichlid (apistos, rams) with a school of tetras.
