![]() | Sexing Blue Rams? |
Mike R![]() Fish Addict Posts: 593 Kudos: 830 Votes: 322 Registered: 27-Jul-2004 ![]() ![]() | On a Ram, the male has that mohawk thing happening where the first three, or so, rays of the dorsal are longer, seperated on top and black, right? Are the females as black or does she have as many black rays and do hers stick up past the top of the dorsal at all? Papillea, I have one swimming around in an obvious state of readiness. It looks like a male to me except the rays at the front of the dorsal don't stick up all that far. The first three do stick up and they are black but it also has a little pink on the belly and the papillea is thick and blunt. Are they like angels in this regard? I have 5 Rams altogether I think I have 3 males and two females. I have a single male in one tank and a pair in two other tanks, I think. Should I put them all together and see what shakes out or will one fish likely get the snot beat out of him. I'd appreciate any help, Mike |

The females stay smaller and her belly will turn purplish/red. Good luck with them, they are a lot of fun. I usually put a pair in with a single male. This usually keeps them from eating there eggs to protect them from the invader. Remove the extra male after you have wiggles. Later ![]() [span class="edited"][Edited by 2004-08-06 20:44][/span] |

Live brineshrimp would be excelent but personaly I avoid the frozen ones for the sake of water quality. Rams will also suplement their diet with a bit of algae wafer if you're allready dropping them in for a bottom feeder. |
