i looked and looked, ive been to every website with a discription and i got nothing. they all day it has to do with the dorsal fin first 3 rays. ok well those are easy to spot they are black but i see no difference in pics that show a mated pair. the spieks all look the same.

anyway i got one ram 2 days ago and i assume its a male by the way it looks liek hes got flares starting to come out. so i go to another store and look at a tank with 15 rams in it and i only see ONE with any difference at all and its not the rays. i see a rounded dorsal fin ...one fish out of the entire tank. and the fish is small in comparison to the rest of the tank.

anyway hers a pic, help me out please...

Don't bet the farm on this but the one on the right looks like a female and the left looks like a male.

The female looks like she has her tube down.

I have read where the males tails will get streamers like in the pic.

Hope this helps, Herman63:88)

Actually, I have 2 males, and when they go into breeding mode, they both put big rounded tubes like that down. Neither is female.
I would say the one on the right is definetly a male. However, the one on the left may NOT be female. My younger male looked just like that when he came to me, and it took him about 3 months to become "masculine". My guess is you just ended up with a smaller younger ram. I think males and females are the same size in Bol. Rams.
I would say you will have to wait till either they pair off, or the smaller one develops more.

While time will clarify things, the dorsal fin on the left fish sure looks rounded, and the fish on the right looks much more pointed.

The spikes on the the first dorsal rays trick is only for blue/gold/german rams.

well it surely does have a very rounded dorsal there
Probably you will just have to keep watching as it grows and see if it develops filaments or not, or if the two pair off.
I wish I could find a female ram. If you end up with one, way to go!
