Sexing Rams By Breeding Tubes? | |
RNJ_Punk Big Fish Cory Fanatic Posts: 395 Kudos: 114 Votes: 137 Registered: 12-Nov-2006 | I have given up on sexing my rams by colors, fin extensions, and behavior. Is there any possible way I can find a distinction between male and female blue and bolivian rams by differences in the breeding tubes? I feel this will help me alot. Thanks |

Males are usually a little larger. However, the most reliable way to sexing this species are differences in fin development. Both the dorsal extensions and the filaments of the lyre-shaped tail fin are much longer in males than in females. I do not know of any way to sex by differences in the breeding tubes. http://www.fishprofiles.com/site/aquarank.aspx |

Females ovipositor is large, rounded at the end, long, and thick. Males tube is small, short, conical or pointed at the tip, and a lot shorter than the females. In fact, males tubes may be so small you might barely be able to see them. Come Play Yahtzee With Me! http://games.atari.com Http://www.myleague.com/yahtgames |
