male australia
I recently bought 2 Neolamprologus caudopunctatus. i have them in an aproximatly 30L or 8 gal tank. mabie a bit bigger.

the guy i bought it off told me he was reasonably sure they were male/female however he said it was difficult to tell. he based his assumption on the fact that one was significantly larger that the other. (one is around 3cm the other 4cm)

he told me if i got two males they would fight continiously. two females wouldnt and neither would a pair.

anyway they are fighting. the large one seems to have taken the cave and is herding the other into the corner behind the filter. the smaller abused fish displays vertical bars and seems frazled, he does however from time to time pep up the courage to mount a counter attack but is quickly put in its place in the corner.

are they definetly both males? or is it simply that they are settling in? my girlfriend tells me she has seen both of them in the cave but ive never seen the small one go in.

the guy told me i could exchange one of em if they fought. should i do this? is there a better way to sex them? ive heard of the male having some red in the fin but mine dosnt apear to have this. if it gets bad should i separate them untill i can take him back? when will i know enough is enough?

ive kept malawis but never had a problem like this.

How old are they? And can you get pictures?

This is the reason you should buy a group of fish instead of a pair. Even males and females will fight on rare occassions.
If they're fighting now, they'll continue to do so.
