That is what I assumed because to catch the others I had to take out 75% of the rocks in the tank.

give them some time. they are probably stressed from the fishnet action.

I have taken the socolofis to an lfs and I kept the yellow labs but I have seen them once or twice. They are now extremely timid.

For that tank I second the peacocks.

i agree with MR CIHLID completely. it is a very small tank as far as african cichlids are concerned. much better off as a species tank. personally, i would lose the mbuna and go with a trio of the peacocks you noted. they will not get 6" and you should have a lot of spawning and great color from the male. or...go with a single mbuna species, especially if you are concerned about aggression. the more species you have, the more aggression will usually occur. not a strick rule, but that is the way it tends to happen.
i would keep the numbers to 4 fish.

I agree with no Peacocks, as mentioned above for all the same reasons....

Overcrowding is a good trick to help with aggression in a Mbuna tank. however, It's a 30g we're talkin' about.....

In my opinion you should get rid of the socolofi, forget the rusty's although they would be a good match to your yellow's you really don't ahve the room for a multi species tank.

You'll have the best results if you keep your tank a species tank, with 1M, 3F.

Your problem is that the electric yellows are not nearly as aggressive as the socolofi. Yes, I agree that you should get rid of the socolofi. Rustys should do nice with the electric yellows.

Also, aulonocara really need more swimming room. Some of them can reach 5-6", and they are more open-water fish than the rock-dwelling mbuna. I'd go with the trio of rustys and the trio of electric yellows.

I have a 30gal mbuna tank with 3 yellow labs (1m/2f) and 3 pseudotropeus socolofi(1m/2f). I have been having some problems with aggresion as the male socolofi has taken over and I was thinking of overcrowding. What should I add to make an ideal setup? Is it a good idea to overcrowd this tank?

That is overstocked. I would go with the trio of peacocks or just with the labs. I never keep rusty so I won't comment on them. 9 cichlid of those size would definitely be overstocked.

I was thinking also of adding rusty cichlids. Has anyone had a problem with this combination? I have a lot of rocks, 2 large pots, and a smaller pot. For a final stock list I was thinking 3 yellow labs (1m/2f), 3 Rusty cichlids (1m/2f), and 3 Aulonocara stuartgranti sp. Chilumba (1m/2f). Does anyone think that there will be a problem with this combination?

Auloncara will be fine with yellow labs, I have 2 different auloncara with yellow labs, red zebra's ,maylandia greshakei and an electric blue Hap and a bristlenose and all are fine no aggression but the tank is well designed with rockwork to enable hiding places and holes to dissappear into if needs be.

get rid of the scolofi and get another yellow lab then you should be good. also overcrowding usually only used in mbuna tanks.

Aulonocara are not compatible with your mbunas.

I am thinking that I will trade the socolofis and get Rusty cichlids. I am also considering a trio of an aulonocara species. I might also get a third female for each species. Do you think that this would be a good setup?

It can be possible to overcrowd and it is a common thing to do in cichlid tanks.Cichlid recipe.com a specialist cichlid site has overstocking lists for different sizes of tank.Filtration has to be vastly improved and water changes have to be frequent as nitrate is not tolerated well by most malawi species.Bear in mind that lake malawi's reefs are teeming with fish.
Also bear in mind that some fish just wont go together.

It's never good to overcrowd a tank, especially with Cichlids, as they are a bit aggressive.

You can add some more rocks & more hiding places, but i think that the aggression will remain, as it's common with Cichlids.
