My pair (proven with several batches of fry) follows the classical male only with fin extensions look...and neither has pink on the stomach - just orangish yellow (on both).

I wonder if we're dealing with the now expanding Microgeophagus family here...with the different colorations either representing currently undescribed specied (i.e. - M. sp. "two spot" ). Or, it could simply be variations based upon collection location.

Mine were labelled papiliochromus altispinosus. I don't know what the differences are between them and the more common microgeophagus altispinosus. Also, it could be just be that the various wholesalers are just not identifying them correctly and passing the wrong names down to the LFS.

Papiliochromis altispinosus is a synonym for Mikrogeophagus altispinosus, and used to be the actual scientific name until it was changed (I think it was in the 1990's). The two names are both for the same fish nowadays.
