I have 1 bala shark 2 RTBS (Also had 2 RBS but 1 died of unknown causes and the other went missing recently and I cant find him anywhere and I moved everything in the tank but the live plants and no way could he hide in those..... I mean I didnt find a body or nothing. I even looked around outside the tank) a african butterfly fish and a dragon fish. Now I just purchased a oscar. He is very shy atm (just got him yesterday.) Whenever I look at the tank he hides but when I am at the comp he swims and explores. Is this normal behavior??? Also I DO NOT WANT my african butterfly fish eaten EVER!!! He is my fav fish and will eat live crickets out of my hand and lets me pet him. So If he gets eaten I am gonna be really pissed. The eator WILL get feed to piranha in fact. So my 2nd question is will my African Butterfly fish get eaten by the oscar? Thanks, Chris |

It's mouth would open pretty wide, when it yawned or ate. I put a firemouth in tank with divider and when I was cleaning tank it ventured to other side. The oscar did not bother it. The firemouth was only 2 inches. I thought it was gone. The oscar never did bother it. In fact, I decided to leave divider out, and for a short time jack dempsey tried but oscar would protect it. If fish is that important to you don't risk it. |

If it fits in their mouth, there's a very good chance they will try to eat it. If it doesn't, they'll just harass it. If you value your other fish, then leave the Oscar out. If you get the Oscar about the same size as the other fish, and raise them together, you might get away with it... And the Oscar behaviour is normal. They are swimming puppy dogs. When he settles in, he'll be your best friend. Expect to have another fish you canhand feed... if you want it! Both of my Oscars allow hand feeding, and often petting as well! |
