I came home from holidays to find my last remaining female peacock belly up

so i need advice where to go from here.. i have my gorgeous male peacock left and 5 electric yellows and 1 bn in my 55g tank.
Should i: a) go back to the LFS where i sold my babies a few months back in the hope there will still be some there and purchase 2 females
or b) maybe do an all male tank since now i can mix different breeds.. or will that stop the colours from showing on my peacock due to dominance of other fish?
or c) im open to other suggestions!

thanks

Maybe get more females in from another shop, that way they have less chance of being directly related? Some male fish do show a spot of spousal genocide, I had a krib once that was a serial killer of females, but unless you try you never know.Anyway , point is once I got him an unrelated female , the killing stopped.

Either way in the population of peacocks you had there may be a genetic weakness that is causing the females to die early, so Id take the opportunity to get a female from a different batch anyway. Always pays to breed out weakness when you can. Sometimes males in breeding colouration may accept new females instantly, and it might not be a bad time to try him with a new mate, after all, tankmoves occassionally stimulate fish to breed, and you might end up with some fry!

Thanks for the advice longhairedgit.. havent seen you around the site for a while!

the only problem with what your suggesting is that i dont know the exact specific breed of peacock i have at the moment. the females all made it to a ripe age so i think genetically they were ok..im not really worried abouy breeding anymore as ive done plenty of it in the females time..
maybe if i could get a clear shot of the male would someone be able to identufy it?

Possibly. I have a hard time id-ing peacocks, but many people on this site may be able to help you out ^_-

Personally, I think that if you don't want any fry anymore, then you could easily do an all male tank. If your looking for fry, then you should get some females. I agree though that if you get females for breeding that they probubly shouldn't be related if you can avoid it.

Good luck in the future!
