From what I've heard TX cichlids are very aggressive they beat up on Jack Dempseys, Oscars, and anything you might put in there with them.....and yes, 55 gallons minimum.

he didn't do so well in my 55 tall, so i added him into a 75 gallon round tank, with large fishes, so hopefully she/he will be better there, and for long term.

Let me know what you have in there and how it's going. I've been considering doing a texas tank for a while.

I actually just traded in a very large Tx Cichlid at my LFS because he was a very, very aggressive fish. I did have a Dempsey in there with him that was constantly hiding because if he came out he would be pestered.

I bought a six incher here in Canada for $12.99. A really beautiful fish.

I put him in a 70 gallon with a 5 inch Flamingo Cichlid (King Midas twin) and an 4 inch abramite headstander.

At first the texan was dominant and took over the Flamingo's cave.

Over the last four months, the flamingo has outgrwn the texan by about two inches and is now the dominant fish, but niether are deadly aggressive (yet).

Both of them leave the abramite alone and vice versa.
