top dwellers maybe some small rainbows. blue eyes, threadfins, these all school and stay at about 2-3 inches so would work well. they allso swim top/middle.

4ft x 18inches x 2ft?
thats sounds real good for some angels. pleco would deffinetly be to large. a small type of pleco maybe like a clown or scribble. still might be to large.could go with a pair of kribs on the bottom or some apistogramma. even a pair of rams would work i think. you deffinetly have some options you can work with.

your missing a demention in your tank size. 4FT tall, 18 inches wide, how long? reason i ask it sounds like a perfect breeder tank for angels. just a though.

Hi People

I just inherited a tall aquarium..sorta like that one...it's 4 feet deep and about 1.5 feet wide...now i sorta have a problem with this...how can i get my water to be all the same temperature? i mean i have a fluval 200 watt heater which is good for up to 60 gallons i think...but it does not heat the bottom of the aquarium...i have about 5-6 degree difference which is very bad of course... the bottom is at 73 degrees but the top is much warmer...also i was wondering what kind of fish could do good in this type of habitat? any help would be great.[/font]

For top dwelling fish you can try 2 dwarf gouramis.
They stay nice and small and have great colour.

so
2 dwarf gouramis
2 Rams
6-7 tetras
1 BN
you may be able to fit in a small cory school as well. I'm not real sure if corys like tall tanks though.

well anything really...but i guess i'd like a schooling fish that hangs around at the top and another group that will hang around the bottom...even though it is a 40 gallon tank i can pretty much only stock it as if it were about a 20 so i'm kinda limited...

40 US gallons = 151.4 Litres
The rule is around 1 watt per 1 litre
So you'll need a 150watt heater.

Try and put your heater near a filter or a air pump so the heat can be moved around the tank making it a more even temperature.

They aren't really that expensive at all... I wouldn't imagine you need 200watts. Keeping your current heater on the top and getting a new 100-150W fully sub heater for the bottom would work just fine...

The only thing I worry about is getting circulation all the way though the tank... If you only have a bit of circulation all the fish will stay at the top of the tank. What I would do is get a low GPH power head or two and put it on the bottom of the tank and have the water going diaganolly though the tank to keep all of the water moving.

You also know you can't stock a tall tank NEARLY as heavily as a long/wide tank. The best you can hope for is maybe 20g stocking equivalency.
