about 30 gallons you could have more then 2 of them. you really need to get atleat 3 so the agression kind of spreads out the more the better really.i plan 20 in a 55 gallon with extra extra filration.in the wild electric yellows are found extremely crowded so you are able to over stock in aquariums with these type of fish.but if you do extra you need good filtration.

the larger the better. I think a 30g would also be pretty good.

And overstocking is a big no no. It's only ok to stock the tank to the limit it can hold.

its noty okay to overstock with other normal fish.

but i for one think its okay to overstock mbuna it vastly decreases aggression believe it or not.

they are found in the wild in small areas in large numbers

i guess this is just another opinion just like some believe its okay to paint glass cats(i for one do not)

There's no need to overstock with yellows; they're one of the gentlest mbuna. Give them a bit of space and a lot of rockwork and there won't be any problems.

Overstocking used to be the norm, absolutely, but now that we understand more about each fish species we can generally prevent problems by not combining gentle mbuna with superaggressive species, giving the aggressive ones plenty of space, not combining species whose colors would cause them to come into conflict, etc.

Do Not overstock. Lots of rocks & caves will be fine for Yellow Labs & get 3 females for 1 male.

I have six in a 45 gal, that's enough to dissipate the aggresion, but room to grow. I even have a female holding eggs. 20 in a 55 seems like an awful large number.

there is no need to overcrowd yellow's they are not that aggrsive towards eachother. i personally kept 5 in a 30g for almost 2 years with no problems so you should be just fine. just avoid adding any more at a later date.

Yellow labs are gorgeous fish, and as long as you have room, they much prefer larger numbers. We have a large group of yellows in a 90 gallon (about 20) along with some OB peacocks (10 female and only 1 male ) We have a whole lotta filtration to go along with all of our fisheys, but overall, they are oh so happy!

Good luck & Happy Fishkeeping!
