First, they can grow to around 10-11 inches. Secondly, they are aggressive fish. I would keep them in big tanks, with big fish that can defend themselves. They sound very interesting, though. ![]() |

Be prepared to keep them in a tank without tank mates/other species. Males are larger and more colourful. I had a pair and they mated a few times. Very, very interesting behaviour. They prepare by digging in a cave or under a rock. They lay the eggs and guard them. Then they look after their babies very diligently. My male Tex died recently and I still have his mate. Very interesting fish but a bit skittish esp when breeding. Even normally they freak if their tank is approached abruptly. Make sure the tank isn't in a traffic area of your house or room. Make sure you have a big enough tank 4ft-6ft and be prepared for them to eat any plants you put in there down to a stick. Feed larger food as they get bigger as the little stuff will stop tempting them and foul the tank. Hope this helps you and anyone else researching Texas cics ![]() ~~~ My fish blow kisses at me all day long ~~~ |
