When you say it is external features of a male what exactly do you mean?

that's what I've been wondering. Daka told me in chat there was no way to get a pic. All that I can think of to tell you is that over the years dempseys have been inbred so much that the gene pool really needs fresh blood so to speak. With all the inbreeding the distinguishing features of male and female are not as noticeable as their wild counterparts. In fact, in many cases such as this one you may have a female that looks more male and vice versa. For instance, lots of people report their females having long fin extensions which isn't the norm for a wild fish.

yea, i think you hit it right on the head there Jason, she does have the long fin extensions, and her dorsal fin has a deffinate red line along the top of it

that's common with all dempseys I believe...males and females alike.

I read somewhere that females have a much smaller red stripe, and males have a bigger red stripe... Daka's JD definately has a big red stripe (even bigger than my male's)
