Just wondering if anyone has any first hand experience with these guys.......

I finally got my hands on some, I know all the basics but actual first hand experience can't be beat.....

Thanks,

Limit your feeding to mainly spirulini and vegetable. Try not to use anything over 40% crude protein. Get some dithers or they'll beat each other up, gouramis work great.
Dont try to mix up the diet too much, they get bloated really easy if you do.

Stay on top of those water changes, they need them. Powerheads are a +

I dont have Red rainbows but I do keep tropheus. How many have you got and what size tank is it? I dont think gourami's would like the PH levels. From memory they like 6.5-7.0 where as tropheus like it from 8.5-9.0. If there are plenty of hiding places or plenty of fish (15-20) they will be fine, the aggression gets spread around.
I think there are only two things you need to look after. Thats their food and their water changes. Most of the good fish food brands make spirulina or vege flakes. Mine get vege flake in the morning spirulina wafers for lunch and then two small vege flakes feeds, one in the afternoon and on at night. Grow as much algae in the tank as you can. I only clean the front glass in my tank. The tropheus will keep it under control.
As for water changes, I do 30% every week. I have 24 nkonde yellows in a 330 liter tank. I have had no probs with bloat or any other desease ( I know it will happen sometime). Keep some metro or clout handy just in case. Mine love some current in the water so I have an external canister 1200LPH, + a 800LPH and a 600LPH internal canister filter, this keeps the water running at a good rate.
Hope that helps

Josh

Thanks for the reply's...

As for diet goes mine get veg. flakes, spirulina, both alteranting & romaine lettuce once a day.

As for algae growth, it grows about as fast as they can eat it......

I have 18 in a 75g.(US)
I have no plans to use any dither fish, or any other species of tanganyikian fish. This will be a species tank.

Water changes, i do 20% every fourth day...

Little swimmer did you add all yours at once????
I know your want to add them all at once, which i did...
But i have the chance to grab 15 more and want to really boost the numbers.

I was thining of taking my 18 adding the other 15 and re-locating them to a 125g.
The new ones are close to mine in size but i'm a bit unsure if it's a good idea???

Any thoughts guys/gals?????

Thanks again

i got all mine at once and dont know about adding more once they up and going. What size are they? I know it can be done and i have read that the fish should be about the same size. I would lean towards adding the new fish to the old together when the new tank is set-up. that way there would be less stress on the fish.

yes, the only feasible idea to add to a colony would be to set up the 125, then add both groups at once. make sure the territories/decor in the 125 are totally different to the 75 - just so the old squad don't get any wrong ideas about it being their old patch!!

Thats what i was thinking.

Still not to sure if i'm going to add the new, or just settle for 18....

Their about 1 1/2" right now the others are about 1 1/4".

Guess i'll just have to dwell on it for awhile

Thanks again everyone
