I've never had an algae problem and I recently bought a Moori and threw him in my existing tank, consisting of mostly malawi cichlids ranging from 2-4 inches. I also have one territorial Brichardi, but most cichlids seem to leave him be (no noticable nips or injuries). He doesn't seem to have tryed eating anything I've thrown in the tank such as cichlid pellets or bio blend for herbivores. I've had him in there for one week, is he gonna live? Any other suggestions for getting him to eat?
Water is at 80 degrees with no nitrite and low nitrate and a ph of about 7.4. Water is hard from tap here in southern California and I will be placing some malawi/victoria nutrients to increase ph here in a few days... Ideally, I'd like a ph of 8.2 or higher.
Thanks for your input,
Andrew

I see 2 things happening. Either he dies from bloat or he makes it through and kills the others. Tropheus are very specialized fish, they need specific care thats completely different than almost every other fish. I would bring him back to the lfs.

To add on to greenmonkey's post, moori are also best kept with their own species in a large large group, so returning him to the LFS would be best. It's probably stressed out being the solo moori in the tank.

He is most likely not stressed from being the only one. The reason people keep them in big groups is because in groups of 3 or 4 one will kill of the others. So the more you have the the more agression is spread out. I would still return him though.

With cichlids it is always helpful to have a spare 10,20,or possible larger tank just to put the fish in isolation in order to heal for trade or transfer.
