I just got this cichlid today as they previous person cared for rather poorly. I hae since moved this fish to a much better tank now. Approx 6 and is supposedly a Texas Cichlid however does not resemble the images I have seen of them. Part of me thinks Convict Cichlid however just as much of me says no. If anyone has any ideas it would be great help.

Looks like a female mayan or red terror cichlid but stripes are a bit off. Is it very aggressive? how big is it in those pics? Doesn't look like a pure breed tho

approx 6 inches in the images and before I got the fish it was extremely aggressive compared to my Red Devil, but is still rather timid most likely from being moved.

it is 100% not a pure festae and while it does bear some resemblance to mayan <uropthalmus> but I don't think it's pure mayan either.

my best guess at this point is barred Midas. Barred midas can get a pinkish/red coloration to them depending on the breed and look very similar to a mayan.

My advice: give it a month or 2 of TLC and then take some new pics and we'll take another look
