Well,
when I bought Angelfish, I bought a single fish. I thought it was lonely and bought a second, Voila, 8 Days later I had my first batch of eggs.
So, my boyfriend got given a Discus for his birthday. 1 Month later, we purchased its supposed "buddy" that was with it. Now, today, we have eggs!!
I dont know how lucky this is, but to get a good breeding pair of Angels on the first try was amazing, but a pair of Discus?!?!?!
I am in Awe. They spawned in my 75g community tank, on the driftwood, in water ph7 hardness 100GH, temp 82, and with water changes only every 2 weeks on average, and this tank also just went through a mini-cycle due to my 90g going sploosh and this being the replacement. I will post a pic of proud parents and eggs in a little bit! So exciting!

Awesome.

Discus are pretty hard to keep in top condition, and even harder to breed. You must be doing something right.

On the contrary, discus, when settled in, are among the easiest of fish to breed (in the same manner as angelfish)...but to accomplish this in a single week? Your water must be freaking pristine. Congrats, as they're beautiful. I never got past the egg laying part with discus, as the parents kept eating them and I had no extra room to raise several hundred young.

That's what I meant about them being hard to breed.

Out of the 6 or so pairs of breeding discus we have at work, only one of them doesn't eat their eggs on a regular basis. Stupid discus...

Seriously. The eggs are easily removed from their parents, though, and given some airline tubing, they should do great. Good luck with them, and keep us posted.

Stupid discus...

Stupid discus indeed!!!! ] Racso and I recently acquired 3 discus between the 2 of us. I got 2 smaller ones and he got a slightly larger one. Well the larger of my 2 dominated over the smaller one (common, yes I know) so he starved ] Racso's wouldn't eat ANYTHING for about 5 days. He'd take a brine shrimp and spit it back out, take a bloodworm and spit it back out Racso even more recently got another from the fish auction last weekend. Now all the sudden the "older" one has decided to eat EVERYTHING he possibly can, so the newer one has to fight to eat. Oh wait, by "eat" everything, I really mean peck at the general direction of the food and miss entirely Discus are gorgeous fish, but they HAVE TO be THE DUMBEST fish I have ever come across

[/tangent]

Congrats on your breeding angels and especially the discus. Don't get discouraged if you don't get fry within the first couple tries. It's a common thing, and I know at least the angels will try again in about a month. Once they hatch (if they do), leave them with the parents until they are free swimming, as they will take care of them. Make sure the tank isn't bothered very much, to prevent the parents getting stressed and eating the fry. Again, I'm only speaking on angels here. I have experience with them, but not the discus. Hope everything goes well
