Right now I feed my 18 African Cichlids just Hikari products. I have the Gold, Bio-Gold, and the Complete. I use all three only because I find the Complete very expensive.

Should I be giving them live food as well or can I stick with just the 3 Hikari products?

My Gang gets....

Nutrafin Max Spirulina and Algae Tabs as their main source of food.
Once in a while they will get New Life Spectrum Cichlid Formula Pellets
Seaweed Selects - Cichlid Salad
Formula Two - Frozen Food
Freeze Dried Plankton

Hikari products are quite good & you feed them 3 different, so it's very good.

Yes you can occationatly feed them some Live/Frozen food.

Are they mbuna or haps and peacocks? Those foods are okay for haps and peacocks but probably a little too high protein for mbuna. Mbuna need a mostly vegie diet. Mine get HBH Marine Green 40 flake as a staple and then fresh vegies like spinach, and something more high protein like brine shrimp flakes as a very occassional treat.

Honestly, I think I did the mistake of stocking my 70 gallon tank on the advice of one guy at the Big Al's. I never knew about getting info from here until after I bought the cichlids.

I told the guy I just wanted variety and over the course of 3 weeks he had me purchasing the following:

2 Yellow Labs
2 Red Zebras
2 Kenyi
2 Electric Blue
1 OB Peacock
2 Black/White Auratus
1 Copadichromis Borleyi
1 Champsochromis Caeruleus
2 Aulonacara (not sure what type)
2 Deep Water Hap
1 Distichodus

I like the look because there are variety but now after going through this site I'm worried some of my cichlids are not compatable. Right now the Distichodus is the most aggressive but for the most part no one is really attacking one another other then a few chases here and there. I have plenty of hiding spaces as well.

I know some are haps some are mbuna and 1 is a peacock.
I hope the guy didn't screw me in stocking my tank.

Now with those how do I really get a balanced diet for everyone. It's probably tough to do but I guess I have no choice now.
