I was at petsmart today and they had a cichlid in their assorted cichlid tank that was so cool! It look like a clouded leopard pattern on a fish. It is only like an inch long, it is sooo pretty! What could it be?

When they are marked as Assorted Cichlids, who knows what they are?.
Sometimes the LFS mix up the original names, let alone knowing what the Assorted are.
I really hate them when they lable fish, especially Cichlids as Assorted.

I agree, I completely find it lazy and irresponsible for an LFS to lable cichlids as assorted. The novice keeper has no idea what the fish is and if it's compatible. Anyway, if I had to guess as to what the fish is, I would say that it's probably a Venustus.

That is what it was. It was so little and cute! But obviously, will not stay that long for long!

It was most likely a venestus. Thats the most common one I can pick out there. Also a lot of place label them assrt cichlids because of the hybrids that come in with it. The distributors are at fault to since they sell em as that. Though there is a difference when they label fish that I trade in and tell em what they are assorted cichlids. Some times though you can find gems hidden in the rough.
