![]() | What kind of cichlid do i have? |
smackitsakic![]() Fish Addict Posts: 620 Kudos: 1198 Votes: 18 Registered: 27-Jan-2004 ![]() ![]() | About three months ago i bought a cichlid. I have an electric yellow in my tank, and when i went to the fish store they had a ton of electic yellows in a tank with alot of fish that were much similar except blue. I asked and was told that they were basically the same fish, so i bought one. All it had on the tag stuck to the tank was the long name, which i obviously don't remember. I had just assumed that the fish i got was an electric blue, seeing as how it was in with the electric yellows. Today, after doing some research, i'm wondering if i didn't perhaps buy a blue cobalt that day? He looks more purple in my tank than blue, and has some pretty distinct darker stripes running vertically down his sides, much like a zebra. Is this a cobalt blue or an electric blue and how do you tell? |

The best way to tell is looking at photos. The FP profiles are a good place to start, the cichlid-forum profiles, and the Google image search. -Molly Visit shelldwellers.com! |

But if it looks similar in body shape to the electric yellow, it isn't an electric blue. Electric blues, being haps, have a different body shape to mbuna. There are dozens of species of mbuna which are blue though, so it would be almost impossible to say which you have without seeing pics! I'm even starting to see Perlmutts in stores, albeit fairly bad quality ones. -Molly Visit shelldwellers.com! |

Socolofi, though is identical to Lab C. only powder blue with black to the fins. Pearlmutts where i am at least are very common ![]() |
