Marble, but I mean completely black and white, not blushing, not a tricolor koi. When I get my next tank, I'm going to get one and name it Domino

Racso and I also saw 1 pure white angel, that was also irredecent, in a store. It was GORGEOUS and we haven't seen any since.

Ahhh, Theresa's koi looks like a gold marble blusher to me, which has black pigmentation over the gill cover making the blush barely visible.

Many (not most) blushers loose their juvinille blush as irridescent scales can cover the blush with maturity. The clear (non striated fins) support that Theresa's fish is a blusher (genetically stripeless). Orange/red colouration in koi is a relatively recent thing. Today, most agree that koi should show red or orange to a greater or lesser extent, though some will call a Stripeless gold marble which shows no orange a koi. Argueably the "best" koi lines are approaching 90% orange coverage, extending well into the dorsal, pects and anal fins.

TigerAngel's "silver" looks like a gold to me. His "black lace" looks to be a dark marble.

P. scalare, P. altum (and to a lesser extent P. dumerilli) are still being wild caught. Wild P. scalare are in high demand by breeders seeking to renew genetic vigor and increase finnage (as well as other attributes) in their lines. Wild caughts are not commonly found in the retail pet market but may be specially imported by some shops.

For those who wish to check out more on angelfish colourations/gentics, see below:http://www.angelsplus.com/angelstrains.htm#Silver

http://www.finarama.com/tba/identification.htm

http://theangelfishsociety.org/genetics.htm

As for favorite strains, well the big $$$ and excitement is currently in the very high colour coverage red/orange koi, but my personal fav is the spotted Peruvian wild scalare which show lovely shades of golden browns and irridesence. I also adore altums. For domestic strains, I'm partial to blacks and smokies. I am not a fan of the veil or super veils and do not care for the look of "blushing" gills. To each his or her own. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

Supposedly, the DD blacks are supposed to be the most sought after coloration. Personally, I'm with frog--nature's colors always look the best.

BTW-Tiger angel, what kind of sand is that?

Go with the natural kind, with 4 black strpes and a silver body with normal friends.

You wouldn't want your children to have birth defects, so why would you buy mutant Angelfish? Including veiltail, marbled, etc.

I don't think angels are caught wild anymore unlesss they're altums and in which case they would fetch a heavy price tag.

If theyre wild caught altums, they will be taller shaped and have sharper finnage.

hmmm the wild colors sort of look like the best of both; defined stripes and some coloration up top. Is there any way to tell the difference between wild blood and wild caught? I want to keep my angel from a very small size because i've got neon's in the tank as well, and a bit of confusion could end up with some ugly butchering if there were any confusion hehe.

Theresa, I dont think its a Koi, koi have deep deep orange and white, and your koi doesnt have the blushing pink gills (all kois have it - Found out in TFH)

Thanks

I've seen some of those pearlscales around, the pictures don't really do them justice. It would definitely be a great centerpeice in a planted tank, I noticed that my silver stands out more than my marble, so I bet that a pearlscale would stand out even better.
