What can I get with a pair of Convicts in a thirty- five gallon tank? I would like to get another cichlid that will eat the extra fry if I can't get rid of them. I would move the parents out of the tank and let the other fish have a big feast.

There really isn't anything you can add. Two adult convicts in a thirty-five gallon tank is pushing it for stocking already, not to mention the fry. If the breeders aren't fully grown at 6" yet, they will be soon. On top of their size, a breeding convict pair will try to remove all other fish from their territory, i.e. the entire tank. In other words, anything you stick in that tank will die.

And when he gets to Heaven, to Saint Peter he will tell: "One more Marine reporting, Sir! I've served my time in Hell."

Generally breeding fish are kept without any other tank mates. Better for breeding and they get very aggressive with other fish when they do breed.

You will have to scoop out the extra babies and put in another tank. Or feed to other fish (if that is what you want to do with fry)

If you are not able to make provision for the fry maybe breeding isn't where you're at just now. Takes quite a few tanks/setups.

You can always sell or give the extra fry that you might have for free. I think that all LFS accepts free fish.

Make a few phone calls or stop by and ask before making this assumption.

I asked at my lft when I had texax cichlid fry. They didn't want them.

In fact a few shops turned down my spectacular Tex female that was 6". The lft that took her has her in a display tank now.

Do your research first so you don't find yourself with fry you can't place/raise.

Jason, just noticed you are in Malta. Your statement about lfs taking fish may be true there, didn't mean to flame.

My experiance is in Australia.

The poster of the thread is from the USA which I expect will be different again.

Still 'research first' still holds true no matter where you are.
