I want to get a pair of blue rams for a 10 gallon tank sometime in the future, but I've heard that the rams in pet stores tend to last only a week or so because of poor water conditions. I was thinking about buying a pair from oddballfish.com. Does anyone have any other suggestions?

If you set up and cycle the tank correctly, and add some hiding places to allow comfort for the fish, they should be fine from a pet store. I bought all my rams at my lfs and they have been living healthily so far (a few months). I had to treat one for fin rot and it is fine now.

I don't know why rams have a reputation of being very sensitive. For me, they seem to be pretty hardy, but I am experienced enough in fish keeping to maintain a tank with good water, so a beginner might have trouble with them.

Blue rams from your local LFS should be fine. I am able to keep them at my store just fine, but my water doesn't really keep the gold rams well though. Give them a low pH and a nice clean aquarium and they will thrive.

I think blue rams are a little less sensitive than the gold rams. I noticed that my gold ram seems more timid and frail compared to my blue rams.

I don't think Jeff has the dwarf cichlids any more... At least they are not posted. Later

You could always email Jeff Rapps... He usually doesn't have everything on his website that he actually has in his fish warehouse.
