Lots has changed since my last visit here! I've been so busy, not even been able to check up at my other forums!

Additions to the tank:

1. Colbat Cichlid
1. Rope Fish
1. Dinosaur Eel

I'm somewhat regreting my purchase of the Rope Eel - I was told up and down that they would go wonderfully with the Cichlids, that he and the Dinosaur Eel would fit well together, and that he would eat the Cichlid food.

Yeah. According to the VERY FEW care sheets I can find, they do NOT go well with other species, they dislike a lot of light, and they eat Bloodworms and live feeders.

Urgh. I'm sick of this LFS.

I can find NO information on the Dinsoaur Eel so I'm hoping he'll just bare with me until I scam this forum for some info.

I also wasn't given the Colbat's Scientific name, which sucks as I can also find absolutely NOTHING on him, either.

All worries aside - there have been no fights, no chasing...very peaceful in the tank for now. The Eel and Rope Fish always hang out together and the other four Africans have accepted the Colbat into their group. Pray

My Plecostomaus has grown, she's hanging in there.

Here are some pictures of the new fellas:

If you have any info on any of thse guys, as always, it'd be appreciated.

How's everyone been, eh?

The cobalt cichlid is probably maylandia callainos. If you run a search with that name, you should find plenty of information.

The eels really shouldn't be in that tank, as it seems you have already found out! They do need more meaty, high-protein foods and if you give it to them, the cichlids will be in danger of getting bloat. If you stick to the vegie stuff the eels will be missing out. It's not going to work the way it is! Also, I doubt that the eels will appreciate the alkaline, hard conditions that the cichlids require.

Mbuna should only be kept with other mbuna - that should be your mantra .

I would suggest you take the eels back to the LFS and stock your tank with some nice mbuna - what size is it and what else is in there? I know you've posted about it before, but it was a while ago!

Give the LFS employee who told you that the eel would go well with the cichlids a stern talking-to as well!

God..

I'm sick of being reccomended things I can't care for.

The eels are so beautiful - but you're right, it wouldn't work.

I will take them back tomorrow - and see if they'll give us a refund.

And, go figure - the LFS is clearning out all their Freshwater, and so I'll basically be without access to Cichlids until I can find another place.

Thanks for the reccomendations - and the technical names! You're always a huge help

P.S.
Tank is a 75 gl, currently with 5 different species (one of each) of Cichlids.

You told me in a previous thread that I could get around 4 of each species (down now I'm sure, since the Colbat)to around 20-25 fish in there.

If you'd like to read about your dinosaur eel (Polypterus senegalus) then go to General Freshwater and there is a 12 page thread on Dinosaur eels/bichirs.

You all are wonderful - thank you! I tried so hard to find any information on the Dino Eel, NOTHING. Bah.

I am going to *attempt* to take them back today, but I hardly doubt they accept them, as like I said - they're clearning out their freshwater section.

I plan to check around with other Fish Stores though to take them, even if we have to pay them to.

I will look into the Dino Eel, and see whether or not I have to take him back aswell. Probably will, just to be safe.

Thanks again,
Crys
