For a haren, I'd say a 30 would be a good place to start. Some people use slightly smaller tanks stuffed with caves, but a 30 gives them some space - these are, after all, 5" mbuna, even if they are on the gentle side for a rockdweller.

10 gallon is too small. you need a harem (1 m, ~5 f). if you have 1 m and 1 f, the male will kill the female.

with most mbuna you do need 1-2 males with 4-5 females but with electric yellows you can fudge these numbers because they are not as aggresive. i have (what i beleive is) 3-malse and 3-females in a 29 gallon, which is overstocked, and have been fine for well over a year now.

but for breeding you really want more females than males because the male can have other options if 1 of the females is not responsive.
